Updated version of The Zinnia collective bargaining simulation available online

John Budd, UMN

John Budd has announced that an updated version of The Zinnia collective bargaining simulation is now online at http://www.thezinnia.com/. This simulation involves a fictitious 300-room hotel in Minneapolis (The Zinnia) and a fictitious local union. Students must explore the hotel and union websites in order to learn about the environment and determine their priorities and constraints, and then re-negotiate an expiring contract. Bargaining can take place by whatever means the instructor specifies (in person, online, etc.). This simulation is designed to accompany his textbook (Labor Relations: Striking a Balance, now in its 5th edition published by McGraw-Hill), but all of the simulation materials are freely accessible online for anyone to use. The simulation includes a costing spreadsheet for students. Instructors can contact John at [email protected] for the passwords to allow the hotel and union negotiating teams to access some private management-only or union-only materials.
