Dear LERA@ASSA 2024 Participant,

Thank you for attending and participating in the upcoming virtual LERA@ASSA 2024, January 5-7, San Antonio, TX in conjunction with the ASSA/AEA. We are excited you will be there! Bookmark this page, and check back often. Here, we will post links, checklists, and information that you will need to have in-hand as the meeting approaches. Participants presenting a paper are invited to publish in the Proceedings of the LERA Annual Meeting (Chairs/Discussants are also invited to publish remarks.)

REMOTE PARTICIPATION IN SAN ANTONIO?

Last year, the AEA paid for fully virtual participation for any meeting participant who desired to do so. This year, in San Antonio, the AEA will no longer pay for this cost. Instead, they are passing that cost on to ASSA organizations (such as LERA). LERA, unfortunately, does not have the budget to support this as it is a significant cost.

If you have a health concern that precludes traveling to the meeting in San Antonio, we invite you to pre-record your remarks and have your session chair play these remarks on your behalf in the meeting session. You will need to coordinate this with your session chair prior to November 1, 2023. If your remarks are pre-recorded, you will be both credited for participating at the meeting in our online program, and invited to publish your work in the LERA Proceedings.

Also, be sure to check the AEA/ASSA Annual Meeting page for updates on housing, registration, and more, here: https://www.aeaweb.org/conference/.

Cordially,
Emily Smith and Bernadette Tiemann

Additional Checklists:

Session Chairs

Thank you for participating in the upcoming LERA@ASSA meeting in conjunction with the ASSA/AEA as a session Chair! We are excited about this program and your involvement, and we hope you enjoy the conference. To help you prepare, please find information below that you will need in the coming months. Session chairs play a very special role at our meeting; without you, a successful event would not be possible. Please download and read this letter with more complete information about chairing a session at the LERA meeting. Here is a summary:

1. Verify program information – Could you take a moment to look up your session information in our online program? Is the listing accurate? If you have changes in the coming months, please let us know and we will update the information in the online program, and (if time allows) the final printed program that we will distribute on site. LERA's online program is a session listing and will not reflect any particular schedule until the ASSA announces it, at which time it will be updated.

2. Contact Session Participants We ask that you contact your session participants and request from them both 1) a copy of their paper or presentation if any, and 2) a brief biography to help you with introductory remarks as you will responsible for introducing the participants in your session. You should request to receive these materials by December 15. We also instruct your session participants to provide this information, but, as Session Chair, it is ultimately up to you to obtain this information. Any contact information LERA might have can be found in the LERA Member Directory. To facilitate the collection of these materials, LERA has established a Box share account for this meeting, and we have invited all your session participants to share their files here. To include files, please email them to [email protected]. Additionally, you have been granted access to login, upload/download/or view all files, here: https://uofi.box.com/s/85rgikt9gwvxmn1kh4y7sn9sfa8ulmsu.

3. Forward Contact Information for Session Participants to LERA Also if you could, please forward contact information for your session participants to [email protected] if you have any changes with your participants leading up to the conference. We ask because we plan to send informative emails/mail to participants at various times throughout the coming months, and if we don't have their contact information on file, they will miss deadlines regarding registration, hotels, speaker information, etc. Any contact information LERA already has on file, if you have questions, can be found in the LERA Member Directory.

4. Determine and Enforce Time Limits for Session Participants At the meeting, two hours should be allotted for your session (please check the online program for your session specifics), with time reserved for questions and comments from the audience. Therefore, presenters should have about 10-12 minutes each, depending on the number of participants in your session, to present their material. You should determine and communicate these time limits to participants and you enforce the time limits at the meeting.

5. Publish in the LERA Proceedings If your session will have papers presented in it, then we would invite you to submit remarks as Chair (considered discussant remarks) for publication in the LERA Proceedings of the Annual Meeting. Please let us know by 10 days following the meeting if you plan to publish. Author guidelines can be found online, as well as the upload form. Participants in your session authoring and presenting papers and discussants (if any) are also invited and encouraged to submit their papers/remarks. Papers can be submitted any time from now until after the meeting online, and it’s no problem to submit a revised version later if need be.

6. Download the mobile app "LERA Meetings" and remind your session participants to download it as well. You will be able to contact your session participants there.
